A peace pole for the Genoa Indian School

Robert is working with Rotary partners to place a peace pole at the site of the Genoa U.S. Indian Industrial School, a place for reflection and remembrance.

The Genoa U.S. Indian Industrial School operated in Genoa, Nebraska, from 1884 to 1934. Thousands of Native children were sent there, far from their families and nations.

What a peace pole is

A peace pole is a hand-crafted marker carrying a message of peace, often in several languages. Rotary clubs around the world place them as quiet invitations to reflect.

Why it matters

A peace pole at the school site is one way to honor the children who lived there and to give people a place to pause, remember and talk about reconciliation.

How to get involved

Robert will share the dedication date, partners and ways to take part here as the project moves forward. To ask about the project, call (402) 289-8553.
